DB not backing up correctly

Everything seems like it's installed just fine but when i try to create a backup of the DB (with gzip) it only creates a 45 byte file that's invalid when i try to open it. The file backup works just fine. Any ideas?

Btw, if i try to backup the DB without Gzip is gives the general
"An error occured! The database was not backed up." error.

It could have something to do with your host's setup. Could you give me a little info about your setup? PHP version, nuke version, ect.
