having the same issues as trunks

added shopfiles to root chmodded to 755 = not writable

By default the shop is configured to store files one folder above your document root(../shopfiles). If you have the shopfiles in your document root you should change the configuration value to be just shopfiles. Also, depending on how your server is set up, the folder may need to be chmod'ed to 777. Hope that helps.

ok where do i change the config value? what file?

You actually change it in the shop administration -> configuration.
